Sammie Teal Crum was born May 3, 1944, to the late Freddie and Azzie Crum. He departed this life on Sunday, February 25, 2024. Sammie accepted Christ at an early age as a member of Berea Baptist Church. He was a former member of The Gospel Aires and The Spiritual Travelers. He was employed at Ripley Middle School for 26 years.
Sammie graduated from Line Street Consolidated High School in 1965. While in school he met his high school sweetheart in 1964. Later, September 3, 1968; he joined in union to his sweetheart, Martha Cox (Crum). To his union 3 children were born Aretha, Christy and Carrie.
He was proceeded in death by two grandchildren, Lawrence Desuan Simmons and Harlem Powell; three sisters, Helen (Charles) Johnson, Flora B Smith, Margie (Henderson) Johnson; four brothers Henry Crum, Hillman Crum, Gary Crum and BW Crum.
He leaves to cherish his wife of 55 years, Martha Crum. Three children Aretha (Albert) Williams, Christy Wallace both from Ripley, MS and Carrie (Tina) Crum of New Albany, MS.
Two brothers Anthony (Sheila) Crum of Ripley, MS and Junior (Mary Sue) Crum of Youngstown, Ohio. One sister Beatrice Cowan. He also leaves eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Visitation will be Saturday, March 2, 2024 at Foster & Son Funeral Home, Ripley, MS from 12p-7p; with the family present from 5p-7p. Funeral service will be Sunday, March 3, 2024, 2p at Ripley Second Baptist Church, Ripley, MS. The body will lie in state one hour prior to service at the church. Interment will follow at Boyd Cemetery, Ripley, MS.
